Service Updates

As KCPL begins its return to our reimagined Main Library in Downtown Charleston, some library services will be affected:

  • The Main Library at Charleston Town Center is currently closed for transporting materials back to the renovated Main Library on Capitol Street.

  • As of January 22, 2022, Charleston may no longer be chosen as a hold pickup library.

  • As of January 22, 2022, no holds may be placed on Charleston-only items. If you have already placed a hold but it has not been filled, your hold may not be available to you until the library re-opens on Capitol Street.

  • The Mall Branch location closed at 5:00 on January 29, 2022.  The Branch plans to re-open in March 2022 (subject to change).

    • Any holds remaining on the hold pickup shelves at the end of day will be suspended and the holds will be filled when the Main Library re-opens.

    • Any holds that had been placed but not filled will be suspended until the Main Library re-opens. However, if you would like to try to have your holds filled, you can change your hold pickup library to another KCPL location and unsuspend your hold.  If a copy is available elsewhere in the system, your hold may be filled. You can manage your holds online through "My Account" or ask a staff member.

    • When the Mall Branch re-opens, it will NOT serve as a hold pickup location, but you may checkout from a small collection, use public PCs, print, make copies, renew and return materials.

  • New collection items and patron requests will NOT be released until March 2022.  Please continue to send your requests to https://www.kcpls.org/cant-find-it.

  • ILL Requests will NOT be accepted until March 2022 at the earliest.

  • Teacher Collection Requests will NOT be filled after January 22, 2022 at the Main Library.  The re-start date for this service is still to be determined.  Please visit your local branch library for assistance, knowing that the collection options will not be as extensive as the Main Library collection.

Thank you.
