Come to the Sissonville Library and learn about this famous blues singer! 

Bessie Smith was the "Empress of the Blues" in the 1920s and 30s. Known to be an all-around entertainer who danced, acted and performed comedy, she was a staple of the "Chitlin' Circuit" and Jim Crow South. 

Portrayed by Doris Fields of Beckley.
