Program Description

Event Details

Join us for a workshop with the Kanawha County Master Gardeners on how to start a garden. This workshop will address some basic topics about starting a vegetable garden in small spaces, containers, and raised beds. Why do you want to garden? What do you need to start a garden? How do you plant and take care of a garden? When are the vegetables ready for harvest? There will be time at the end for Q&A.

After teaching 34 years, Beverly Stern completed her certification to become a Kanawha County Extension Master Gardener in December 2019. She travels around West Virginia with Keys 4 Healthy Kids doing preschool gardening, and teaches Apprenticeship for Child Development Specialist (ACDS) for River Valley Child Development Services.

The West Virginia University Extension Master Gardener Program is a volunteer educational program meeting the horticultural needs of everyday West Virginians. The program trains volunteers, utilizing their expertise to teach others more about plants, their culture, their importance to the environment and to our quality of life.
