Welcome To Summer Library Club (SLC) 2024
This year's theme is "Adventure Begins at Your Library!"
SLC is an 8 week program (June 1 - July 31) for all ages at all KCPL locations. Designed to be a fun activity for the entire family, the goal of the program is to develop and build literacy skills for young readers while establishing a lifetime love of reading and learning for readers of any age.
Once registered, readers log books, attend events, and complete activities to earn goodies and entries toward Grand Prize drawings awarded at the end of the summer.
Beginning June 1, register on Beanstack or with a paper log available at any location. Used Beanstack before? Use your existing account again! Visit any location for one-on-one assistance.
SLC Young Reader Groups
Teachers or leaders of summer groups, daycares, camps, or programs with children under the age of 12 may register those groups for SLC and earn points and prizes for participants.
The ages for the Young Reader Groups are as follows:
- Preschool - Birth to 5
- School Age - Ages 6 to 11
- Tween - Ages 10 to 12
KCPL will provide a completion prize for each reader in the registered group(s) to include:
- a duck toy.
- a free book to keep.
- a Charleston Dirty Birds Family Reader Pass good for 6 tickets to a home game between July 21 - September 8, 2024.
Each Young Reader Group will be entered to win a Grand Prize of a $50 Amazon gift card (one for each age group of readers) for their organization.

SLC Adventures
Don't miss out on tons of free events at all locations this summer including, Itty Bitty Therapy Horses, WV Musical Adventures, Bubble Adventures, and Animal Adventures. for preschool, school age, and tweens. Adventure Through the Decades: Summer Library Club Finale Dance
Get ready to twist, shout, and boogie down as we embark on a thrilling Adventure Through the Decades! Don't miss out on this unforgettable event full of music, dancing, and nostalgia.
It's a Foamtastic Fun party for the end of Summer Library Club! Entertainer Robert Edsel Young provides a mountain of foam for you to play in! This safe, unforgettable, magical experience is for all ages. Come prepared to get wet!
Make a journal to take on your next adventure! We will be using twigs, twine, and paper to create our very own adventure journals. What will you use yours for?

At every event, you can register and read with our Summer Library Club, get or renew a library card, enjoy arts & crafts projects, play games, try STEM activities with the IDEA Lab, and participate in other family friendly events. Refreshment provided by Friends of the Library.
What a perfect combination of fun things to do in the summer!
Thanks to the owner of our very own Charleston Dirty Birds, every young reader under the age of 12 who registers for the SLC and earns 20 points will earn a Family Reader Pass good for 6 tickets to any home game from July 21 to the end of the season.
Mark your calendar now, as KCPL Day at the Dirty Birds is Sunday, July 21 - the first day for Family Reader Pass redemptions.
Anyone who shows their KCPL card (or card in the KCPL app) at the ticket office may purchase a $5 ticket to the July 21st game!

Thanks to KCPL's generous community partner, the Charleston Dirty Birds, Sunday, July 21 is KCPL Day at the Dirty Birds! Game begins at 4:05 pm at GoMart Park.
